ifilm talks with 'Vafa' series star Pouriya Poursorkh

ifilm talks in an exclusive interview with Iran actor Pouriya Poursorkh starring in the channel’s currently run series 'Vafa'.

Pouriya Poursorkh entered Iranian TV world via series ‘Vafa’ as a new artistic face that the Iranian viewers did not know. Although this young artist had previously played roles in his artistic career, the series ‘Vafa’ specifically made him a household name in the world of the seventh art.

His role in ‘Vafa’ brought him good luck as Pouriya Poursorkh was nominated for the Best Actor Simorgh for the main role in ‘The Third Day’ during the Fajr Film Festival in its 25th edition in Tehran.

Most of the artistic works by the actor Poursorkh, due to his playing different roles in Iranian Television, caught the attention of viewers. More recently, the actor’s portrayal in ‘Kimiya’ grabbed the popular acclaim.

The following is an ifilm interview with the artist.

ifilm: Let's start with the series ‘Kimya’ , the first television series produced by the IRIB in a hundred episodes and was able to become widely popular. In the series you played a negative role and you appeared from the beginning of ‘Kimiya’.

Poursorkh: In the series, the roles of some actors changed, but acting in the role of ‘Arash’ was chosen for me from the very beginning. The process of filming ‘Kimya’ lasted almost two years, and this was one of the most difficult stages we went through. The cast was a nice combination and we worked in an atmosphere filled with friendship, love and respect. I have also been fortunate in this series to play alongside A-list actors including Reza Kianian and Atefeh Razavi.

ifilm: If we look at your artistic career, it turns out that Mohammad Reza Latifi played a very important role in presenting you to the world of cinema and television, However, your role in ‘Vafa’ was a turning point.

Poursorkh: Yes. I have always said and will say it again that I am indebted to Mohammad Reza Latifi. Of course, before the production of ‘Vafa’, I appeared in the Television series ‘Great Escape’ by Mohammad Reza Latifi. After the ‘Great Escape’, I was invited to play in ‘Vafa’, which at the time was entering the pre-preparation stage. I remember other names were nominated to play the role in the series ‘Grand Escape’, but I was chosen in the end. For this role in the series ‘Vafa’, I think God helped me to a great extent.

ifilm: After ‘Vafa’ in the same year, you appeared in ‘The Third Day’, which is considered one of the masterpieces of Iranian filmmaking, with a theme on Iraq-Iran war and at the time of Sacred Defense.

Poursorkh: Personally, when I remember and browse through the pages of the past, I think at that time if any actor had played in my place in ‘The Third Day’, the same would have happened to them.

Playing the role of Reza in the ‘Third Day’ was a real experience and I have to tell you that I still keep Reza’s clothes I was wearing onset at the time, which is one of my beautiful memories. Even now, I still gain valuable experiences, meeting the war veterans in person; I guess they are the epitome of humanity. These men performed their social duty well and thank god their popularity grows even further among people each year.

ifilm: ‘The Spiritualists’ TV series directed by Latifi is also one of your artistic works produced by the IRIB. It has drawn a large number of viewers. However, what seems most noticeable in your artistic career is negative roles. What do you think of this?

Poursorkh: My roles were more gray, though I had positive roles as well like in ‘Shokraneh’ series. But in ‘The Spiritualists’ I have to say it had a good screenplay. Good text is the pillar of good happening in series or movies. Perhaps the best script I have ever read to this day is that of ‘The Spiritualists’. For this series just like ‘The Third Day’, things were all set for a good outcome. In general, my luck worked better on TV than in cinema.

ifilm: One last question so we can wrap up this interview; what are you up to in your acting career these days?

Poursorkh: I recently had a part in the series ‘Pixel’ by Mohammad Reza Latifi, but I do not know when this will be aired. I also played in ‘Khaltour’ film which is currently on the big screen in Iranian cinemas. In the meantime, I had some acting offers, but I’d rather not talk about them now.
